Is it possible to get pregnant immediately after menstruation: true or fiction

There is an opinion that during menstruation and for several days, both before and after it, one hundred percent protection against pregnancy is guaranteed. Is it so?

Doctors have long proved that it is possible to get pregnant not only on the first day after the end of menstruation, but also during it, since there are no absolutely safe days on this issue. This is due to the fact that there are times when ovulation may not occur at the moment when we assume.

The shift in ovulation can be affected by:

  • well-being;
  • hormonal background;
  • health and stress.

That is why a mature egg can begin to move on any day, and even if you closely follow the calendar cycle, you can still not catch this moment. This is confirmed by the large number of babies born with the calendar method of protection.

Of course, the probability of conception at this time is greatly reduced, but there is no guarantee that everything will happen the way you plan. Therefore, many are mistaken in whether it is actually possible to become pregnant immediately after menstruation.

To understand this, you should know that the menstrual cycle is divided into three phases:

  • follicular;
  • ovulatory;
  • luteal.

In most women, the cycle lasts 28 days. The length of the first phase has a duration of 14-16 days, then the ovulatory phase begins. During this period, lasting 1-2 days, the follicle ruptures with the release of the egg. In the final luteal phase, lasting 12-14 days, there is an overgrowth of the endometrium before the upcoming implantation of a fertilized egg.

Therefore, knowing your menstrual cycle, you can determine the “dangerous” days for you when you can become pregnant.

If we take into account that the life span of an egg is about two days, and the longest life span of sperm cells lasts up to seven days, then it is possible to get pregnant from the twelfth to sixteenth day of the menstrual cycle. But this figure is only true if your cycle has a duration of 28 days!

However, there are several “buts”: do not forget that the body of every woman is unique, all the processes in it occur with some deviations from the standard “schedule”. For example, a woman who has a short menstrual cycle and long periods of up to seven days has the opportunity to become pregnant immediately after her period. Therefore, you can become pregnant already in the first days after the end of menstruation.
